Typical alkaline and PEM electrolyzers consume 50–60 kWh of electricity per kg of hydrogen (higher-heating-value basis), corresponding to roughly 60–70% efficiency. HyZenis electrolyzers can achieve 4.0 kWh/Nm³ (equivalent 44.5 kWh/kg) and specialize down to 4.2 kWh/Nm³ (equivalent 46.7 kWh/kg) in large-scale designs.
Electrolysis systems are typically carried the CE mark in Europe; in North America, look for ANSI/CSA B22734 (equivalent to ISO 22734) or an ASME stamp on pressure parts. Manufacturers should also be ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment) certified.
